EK Charity | Visit to Guangyang Senior Care Home

Respecting and caring for the elderly has been a cherished tradition of the Chinese nation for thousands of years, and EK has long been committed to public welfare initiatives, striving to build a compassionate and caring team. On September 6, 2019—coinciding with both Teacher’s Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival—Shanghai Guangyang Senior Care Home hosted an event titled “Singing Old Songs, Remembering Tradition,” during which EK’s senior care volunteer team visited the residents and joined them in interactive singing and merriment.

This was EK’s first time visiting Guangyang Senior Care Home to participate in a charitable initiative. The director kindly gave us a tour of the facility and its interior, during which we learned that the “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter” murals at the base of each staircase are designed to help residents easily identify their own floor. This clearly demonstrates that the care home is equipped with exceptionally well-appointed facilities and that its staff are remarkably attentive and caring.

With hearts full of excitement and a touch of nervousness, the old-song gathering got underway. The seniors were overjoyed to see the young volunteers, their faces beaming with smiles. After a lively round of clapping exercises, the real performances began. Each senior proved to be remarkably talented, effortlessly singing both revolutionary songs and classic oldies. Finally, it was time for the EK team’s performance: we presented both solo numbers and choral pieces. The grandparents watched our acts with rapt attention, applauding enthusiastically throughout, creating a warm, harmonious, and exceptionally lively atmosphere.

In June of this year, Shanghai EK donated a batch of supplies to the reading room of the senior care home; this time, it has once again provided soft, comfortable seat cushions for every resident, bringing them thoughtful warmth in advance of the approaching winter.

Although this visit to the senior care home was brief, Shanghai EK’s commitment to public welfare continues to move forward. We look forward to our next encounter...
