Procurement and Life
2019-04-15
What is procurement? And just how closely are procurement and life intertwined? Recently, EK conducted a training session themed “Procurement and Life.” We deeply understand that an excellent procurement process involves completing the entire procurement journey at the right time, in the right quantity, in the right place, and at the right price.
Qualified procurement personnel can only perform their job duties adequately; outstanding procurement professionals, while fulfilling their core responsibilities, can also optimize processes, summarize experiences, and continuously improve procurement practices. Truly exceptional procurement professionals stay abreast of the times and grasp the bigger picture. This is precisely what we call the “Three-Part Approach.” The so-called “Three-Part Approach” can be said to be deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Since ancient times, Chinese civilization has essentially evolved based on this “Three-Part Approach,” which differs from the Western “Two-Part Approach” in its mode of thinking. The fundamental principle of the Three-Part Approach is that any given phenomenon comprises two opposing yet interrelated aspects. When dealing with such a phenomenon, rather than adopting the binary “either/or” mindset of choosing either the positive or the negative side, we instead integrate both sides into a unified whole—the third aspect, which embodies the synthesis of opposites. In this way, procurement work becomes directly intertwined with our lives. Indeed, the very process of “buying” and “selling”—a process each of us experiences daily—reflects this very essence of the Three-Part Approach.
Each of us carries within our hearts a mirror—this mirror is called “conscience.” Many people aren’t even aware that they have such a mirror. Only when you wipe away the dust from this mirror in your daily life can you truly discover the mirror that belongs to you and attain a heart as clear and bright as a polished mirror. To “wipe away the dust” means to eliminate your own selfish motives and distracting thoughts whenever you undertake any task. Many people understand these principles, but how much of them can we actually put into practice when it comes time to act? Those who are “born with innate wisdom and act with ease” are called “sages”; those who “acquire wisdom through learning and then put it into practice” are called “virtuous individuals”; and those who “gain wisdom only through struggle and then strive to put it into practice” are called “fools.” I sincerely hope that after this training, we can all set sail and leave behind the “harbor of fools.” ......
Everyone deeply resonated with the entire training content. Many of the teacher’s insights and ideas are truly worth our careful reflection and gradual exploration. I believe that only with time—after it has enriched our lives with diverse experiences—can we truly come to understand these truths.
Finally, the teacher concluded with a “Zen poem hailed as the greatest of all time.” Each of us will have our own unique insights into this poem. May we all take it as a shared inspiration and together deepen our understanding and appreciation of it.
“The Rice-Planting Poem” by Monk Qieci
Holding green seedlings, I fill the paddy fields; lowering my head, I see the sky reflected in the water.
Only when the six sense organs are purified can one truly attain the Way; stepping backward is, in fact, moving forward.
